6th Crenshaw Watts Rotary Jamaica Literacy Project a Roaring Success
On March 8, 2017, 3 members of our club traveled to Jamaica to donate books, supplies and equipment to 3 disadvantaged schools in rural Jamaica. Our club partnered with the Rotary Club of Ocho Rios and gifted more than 800 books and school supplies to Keith Primary School, Muirhouse Primary and Junior High School, and Lower Buxton School. Additionally, on March 10, our members visited the public library in St. Ann's Bay and donated children's books as part of our ongoing commitment to stock the library's shelves with age appropriate, culturally appropriate books.  For CW Rotary Club Member Phoebe Holston, the trip was life-changing. "Knowing that we are the only visitors these schools ever have made a huge impression on me. The children went all out to welcome us and to let us know they appreciated us."  Over the past 6 years, the teachers at these three schools have witnessed a dramatic impact in reading scores due to the ongoing literacy project. Please help us to reach even more students next year!  If you would like to donate to or learn more about this project, please contact our President Jan Howell at
